Jammu, Nov 1 (NationPress) The Northern Railway has designated multipurpose stalls at six railway stations across Jammu and Kashmir to boost non-fare income and enhance amenities for travelers, as confirmed by railway officials on Saturday.
"Additionally, a Second Luggage Rake (SLR) will also commence operations. These multipurpose stalls are located at Banihal, Anantnag, Srinagar, Sangaldan, Budgam, and Baramulla railway stations for a term of five years, with an anticipated total revenue of Rs 79.43 lakh for the Indian Railways," officials stated.
"The stalls will provide a variety of essential items for passengers, including medicines, books, newspapers, cosmetics, toys, and everyday necessities."
This initiative marks the first time in the Jammu Division that multipurpose stalls have been awarded via e-auction. This method guarantees transparency, maximizes revenue, and bolsters local employment, according to officials.
"Our aim to increase non-fare revenue while fostering local employment aligns seamlessly with our dual objectives of cultural integration and financial sustainability. We believe these stalls will significantly enhance the passenger experience and serve as a benchmark for other stations," officials remarked.
"Through the same e-auction process, the SLR for train number 12414 has also been assigned for a total sum of Rs 1.08 crore for three years, marking a significant milestone in Jammu's vigorous marketing efforts that contributed to the auction's success," railway officials added.
Railway officials underscored that this initiative forms part of a larger strategy to monetize station spaces, promote regional art and culture, encourage entrepreneurship, and enhance passenger services through innovative revenue-generating models.
Currently, the Vande Bharat train service operates between Katra in Reasi district and the Valley.
Officials indicated that by the end of the year, the Vande Bharat train service will commence operations from Jammu Railway Station to the Valley.
