Srinagar, Aug 7 (NationPress) On Thursday, officials from Northern Railway announced the opening of the Anantnag railway station in the Kashmir Valley for goods transportation.

A statement released by the Railways highlighted, "This significant move aims to enhance economic activities within the Kashmir Valley, with the Anantnag railway station now operational under the Jammu division for freight movement."

"With this initiative, Anantnag is now prepared to manage various commodities, offering a new and efficient transportation alternative for businesses throughout Kashmir."

The station will function daily from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., facilitating all types of goods transportation (excluding petroleum products) via railway tracks. This marks a crucial milestone in the ongoing development of the Baramulla-Srinagar-Banihal railway corridor, which is part of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link project," the statement elaborated.

"The primary advantages of this initiative include improved market access for Kashmir's products such as horticulture, handicrafts, and fresh produce."

"It also reduces transportation costs for local businesses and traders, enhances logistics, and ensures faster delivery, especially during winter when road transport is often disrupted, thereby strengthening Kashmir's economic ties with markets across India."

The launch of freight services at Anantnag coincides with the Valley achieving complete rail connectivity from Katra to Srinagar, including the remarkable construction of the world's highest railway bridge over the Chenab River.

These advancements are poised to revolutionize the logistics and business landscape for the entire region.

Officials confirmed that all environmental, security, and safety protocols will be rigorously enforced at the station.
