Jammu, April 16 (NationPress) Officials from Northern Railway announced that a joint parcel product rapid cargo service (JPP-RCS) train will commence operations from Adarsh Nagar in New Delhi to Budgam in Kashmir starting Friday.
As per the statement from Northern Railway, the JPP-RCS train will connect Adarsh Nagar station in New Delhi with Budgam located in Central Kashmir.
This service aims to provide support to local merchants in the Valley, especially benefiting fruit producers and artisans involved in handicrafts. The train will operate on a trial basis until May 31, after which it may transition into regular service depending on occupancy levels, according to an official release.
Train 00462 is scheduled to leave Budgam at 6:15 a.m., arriving at Adarsh Nagar in Delhi at 5 a.m. the following day.
To support efficient loading and unloading processes, the train will also stop at Bari Brahmana and Ambala cantonment stations.
The timing for Train 00462 at Bari Brahmana Railway Station has been adjusted for better convenience for the trading community, as indicated in the statement.
On its return trip, Train 00461 will depart from Adarsh Nagar at 5 a.m. and reach Budgam at 10:45 a.m. the next day. This dedicated parcel train will be comprised of eight parcel vans along with one seating-cum-luggage rake.
The railway authorities highlighted that this service provides faster transportation compared to road vehicles, covering the distance in approximately 23-24 hours, ensuring that perishable items like apples and cherries remain fresh.
“This initiative is aimed at bolstering the economy of Jammu and Kashmir by facilitating the swift transport of local goods, including saffron, walnuts, pashmina shawls, and handicrafts to markets nationwide,” the press statement noted.
Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Uchit Singhal informed reporters that the Northern Railway has opted to operate the parcel train regularly from April 17 to May 31 due to continuous requests from traders and farmers.
