Bhubaneswar, April 14 (NationPress) Odisha's Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi emphasized on Tuesday that B.R. Ambedkar represents an ideology transcending mere nomenclature, illuminating the pathway to equality.
The Chief Minister made these remarks during the state-level commemoration of the birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna B.R. Ambedkar at Jayadev Bhawan.
In his address, CM Majhi disclosed plans for the construction of an Ambedkar Bhawan in Kharavel Nagar, Bhubaneswar, directing the General Administration and Public Grievance department to draft a Detailed Project Report (DPR).
"Establishing a society rooted in equality and justice serves as the most profound homage to Babasaheb. His lifelong struggle was to foster equality within society. The Indian Constitution guarantees equal rights and justice to every individual," he remarked.
The Chief Minister highlighted that the advancement of Dalits, tribals, and backward classes in Odisha has been driven by the vision of Dr. Ambedkar.
He stressed that achieving a 'Samruddha Odisha' necessitates uplifting the most marginalized communities.
Discussing the initiatives taken by the state government for the welfare of Dalits and other underprivileged groups, he pointed out that since the current Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government took office, numerous central schemes have been effectively executed to uphold the rights of Dalits and marginalized communities.
He mentioned that over Rs 6,649 crore has been allocated in the 2026–27 budget for the welfare of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.
Additionally, special efforts are being focused on the development of Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs).
Referring to the newly introduced reservation system in engineering and medical education as a groundbreaking decision, the Chief Minister asserted that talent knows no caste or religion, and with appropriate opportunities, everyone can thrive.
He recalled that Dr. Ambedkar was posthumously awarded the Bharat Ratna in 1990, during a time when the government was supported by the BJP.
Majhi accused previous administrations of neglecting Ambedkar's contributions, despite his role as the architect of the Constitution and a proponent of national unity.
However, he commended the current administration under Prime Minister Narendra Modi for making concerted efforts to restore and honor Ambedkar's legacy.
According to Chief Minister Majhi, Prime Minister Modi has developed five significant sites associated with Ambedkar's life as 'Panchteerth', and various initiatives from the Modi government have been instrumental in realizing Ambedkar's vision for India.
