Bhubaneswar, June 24 (NationPress) The Director General of Police, Y.B. Khurania, revealed on Tuesday that the Odisha Police has completed all necessary security measures in Puri ahead of the renowned Jagannath Ratha Yatra, commencing on June 27.
After a meeting with police officials, DGP Khurania emphasized that all arrangements by the Odisha Police are finalized, covering traffic management, setups around the temple, cordon measures around the chariots, crowd regulation, and security in coastal regions, among others.
“For the first time this year, an integrated command-and-control system has been established. Live feeds from approximately 275 AI-enabled CCTVs, placed from Uttara Square to Puri Town, and further towards Konark, will feed into this system. Sub-control rooms at various locations will also access these live feeds, enabling police to monitor traffic dynamics and respond accordingly,” stated Khurania.
A total of 200 platoons of police personnel have been deployed across the holy coastal town for the Ratha Yatra.
In addition, eight companies from the Border Security Force and Central Reserve Police Force will be stationed at key points in the city and its vicinity.
DGP Khurania mentioned that about 10,000 personnel from Odisha police, Central Armed Police Force, and home guards will be present in Puri and its surroundings during this year’s Ratha Yatra.
The Marine Police and Coast Guard, along with Indian Navy officials, will conduct sea patrols to prevent any incidents.
The Coast Guard Air Enclave will perform aerial surveillance during the Ratha Yatra. Drones operated by the Odisha Police will monitor coastal security and crowd activities. The police have also prepared sufficient anti-drone, anti-sabotage, and dog squads for this year's festival.
The DGP urged devotees to follow the traffic advisories issued by the police during the event, announcing that a chatbot application for real-time traffic and parking information will be launched soon. He expressed optimism for a smooth Ratha Yatra this year, thanks to public cooperation.
