Bhubaneswar, June 16 (NationPress) The Odisha Police have developed a comprehensive security plan to guarantee a seamless and trouble-free Rath Yatra festival, which is set to commence on June 27, according to officials.
A high-level preparation meeting, presided over by Director General of Police (DGP) Y.B. Khurania, took place at the DGP's Camp Office on Sunday.
During the assembly, the DGP instructed officials to initiate a special crime control operation across all police stations statewide.
Officials were also directed to carry out extensive checks at hotels, lodges, Maths, temples, bus stations, railway terminals, worker shelters, and dharamshalas.
After the meeting, DGP Khurania announced that for the first time, an integrated control room will be established at the Puri town police station.
Surveillance cameras powered by artificial intelligence will be deployed throughout the city, particularly from Uttara Square to Puri and along the Puri-Konark Road, to ensure efficient traffic management and live monitoring.
He also revealed that the Odisha Police will launch a dedicated mobile application where devotees visiting the coastal town of Puri during the grand festival can access real-time updates on traffic advisories, parking zones, congestion alerts, and alternative routes.
Additionally, the Odisha Police will conduct joint patrols with the Indian Navy, Indian Coast Guard, and Odisha Police Marine Units in the sea to mitigate any potential terrorist threats.
Quick Reaction Teams will be stationed on vessels, and drone and anti-drone systems will monitor possible aerial dangers in Puri throughout the mega festival, he stated.
Furthermore, the Anti-Terrorist Squad and a specialized armored vehicle, Rakshak, will be deployed in Puri to address any unexpected situations, he added.
DGP Khurania highlighted that a larger contingent of security forces will be assigned this year compared to previous years.
He urged senior police officials to remain vigilant for potential stampede scenarios and ensure preventative measures are executed, given that millions of devotees are anticipated in the city during the festival.
Throughout the meeting, DGP Khurania instructed senior police officials to stay alert and proactive during the entire Rath Yatra period, especially during significant rituals like Nabajoubana Darshan, Rath Yatra, Bahuda Yatra, and Suna Besha.
