Bhubaneswar, Oct 14 (NationPress) The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Odisha, R.S. Gopalan, on Tuesday, stressed the importance of addressing any misleading information related to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the 2026 Electoral Rolls in the state.
During a virtual meeting with the district Information and Public Relations Officers across the state, CEO Gopalan detailed the commendable goals and pressing need for the Special Intensive Revision initiative, voter eligibility, and strategies to combat misleading information linked to the SIR, which will commence shortly.
He also underscored the vital role of District I&PR officers in fostering awareness among the populace at the grassroots level.
“The Election Commission of India has gained international recognition for its committed and unbiased operations over the years. To maintain that esteemed reputation, it is crucial to effectively negate misleading and false information,” asserted CEO Gopalan.
He mentioned that the Election Commission of India places the highest priority on ensuring that no eligible voter’s name is omitted from the electoral roll, and that no ineligible individual’s name appears on the list.
He added that all related activities in Odisha are being executed in line with this directive. Deputy CEO Lakshmiprasad Sahu informed the officials about various facets of the SIR through a presentation. He also provided insights into the key measures undertaken by the ECI concerning the Bihar elections.
The Deputy CEO further noted that upon receiving any information regarding misleading claims—such as numerous voters’ names being simultaneously removed from the list, incorrect details from Booth Level Officers, houses lacking numbers, and multiple registrations at a single address—the District I&PR Officers must swiftly disseminate accurate information to the public and counter such misinformation without delay.
Sahu recommended that press releases and information consistently provided from the CEO, Odisha, should be actively shared through social and other media to ensure awareness among people at the grassroots level, and that innovative suggestions should also be conveyed to the CEO's office.
Previously, on September 26, Odisha CEO Gopalan urged all District Collectors and District Election Officers (DEOs) to guarantee meticulous planning and prompt execution of every task, ensuring that the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the 2026 Electoral Rolls proceeds smoothly and transparently across the state.
