Srinagar, Oct 6 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah, officially launched the 69th National School Games in Srinagar on Monday by symbolically kicking off a football, signifying the start of this prestigious national sporting event.
This year's edition of the National School Games has attracted participation from 30 teams representing various states and Union Territories across India, with competitions scheduled at six distinct venues.
The sporting events encompass football, wushu, taekwondo, and table tennis.
During the inauguration, the Chief Minister emphasized the essential role of sports in nurturing unity, friendship, and understanding among youth from diverse backgrounds across the nation.
"Sports create connections of friendship and unity. It brings me great joy to inaugurate the 69th National School Games with all of you. Regrettably, the weather today does not allow for an extended speech, and I won’t keep you waiting in the rain. Although we can't control the weather, it is my pleasure, on behalf of myself, my colleagues, and the people of Jammu and Kashmir, to extend a warm welcome to everyone at this esteemed tournament," stated CM Omar Abdullah.
He assured all participants of the full backing from the state government and organizers, emphasizing that every effort would be made to ensure their comfort and safety.
"If you face any issues—be it a lack of warm clothing or other needs—please feel free to reach out to us. We will do everything possible to ensure your stay and participation are enjoyable," he added.
Expressing hope for improved weather conditions, the Chief Minister encouraged the young athletes to relish the experience of competition and camaraderie.
"As the saying goes, winning is not everything; participation is what counts. I truly admire your spirit and enthusiasm for being here," he remarked, wishing the athletes memorable experiences and success throughout the tournament.
The parade featuring the 30 participating teams received accolades from Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and applause from a large audience of schoolchildren and spectators present at the event.
