Jammu, Jan 15 (NationPress) Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah, engaged in discussions with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Thursday concerning the safety of students from the union territory who are currently studying in Iran.
On the platform X, the Chief Minister stated, "I just had a conversation with the External Affairs Minister regarding the evolving circumstances in Iran. He provided insights on the situation on the ground and outlined the measures that the External Affairs Ministry is implementing. I appreciate his commitment to ensuring that all necessary actions will be taken to protect the interests and lives of students and other individuals from Jammu and Kashmir present in Iran at this time."
Omar Abdullah further conveyed that S. Jaishankar assured him that comprehensive efforts will be made to secure the welfare of students and other residents from the region in Iran.
Currently, thousands of students from various parts of the country, including Kashmir, find themselves stranded in Iran amidst the current unstable conditions. This predicament has caused significant anxiety and concern among parents regarding their children's safety.
Additionally, former Chief Minister and leader of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mehbooba Mufti, has also called for urgent action from S. Jaishankar and the Ministry of External Affairs to facilitate the safe return of these students.
Mufti posted on X, "Thousands of students from across the country, including those from Kashmir, are stuck in Iran during this volatile period. This situation has resulted in heightened anxiety and distress among parents who are deeply worried about their children's safety. I urge @DrSJaishankar and @MEAIndia to act swiftly and ensure their safe return."
