Kolkata, July 29 (NationPress) Former journalist and now politician, Sagarika Ghose, a member of the Trinamool Congress in the Rajya Sabha, raised a critical question in Parliament regarding the lack of accountability for the security lapses and intelligence failures that led to the tragic deaths of 25 Indian tourists at Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir earlier this April.
"Following the initiation of Operation Sindoor against Pakistan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi claimed that only 'Sindoor' flows through his veins. However, I believe it is merely politics that drives him. My inquiry is why no one has been held accountable for the security breaches and intelligence oversights that culminated in the Pahalgam massacre," Ghose asserted during a discussion on Operation Sindoor in the Parliament during the Monsoon session.
She emphasized that due to significant negligence from security forces, terrorists managed to infiltrate India from Pakistan.
"Why is the Indian cricket team still engaging in matches with Pakistan? Is it solely due to financial incentives from major tournaments? Where is the direction of national policy headed? Why hasn’t the Prime Minister visited the villages near the International borders yet?" Ghose questioned.
She further highlighted that after returning from Saudi Arabia post-massacre, the Prime Minister opted to campaign in Bihar rather than visiting Pahalgam first.
"Why is the Prime Minister politicizing the tragedy of the Pahalgam victims? It seems that only politics, not 'Sindoor', drives him," Ghose remarked.
She made it clear that while the Trinamool Congress fully supports the Indian Armed Forces in their fight against terrorism, it does not mean the party will refrain from questioning the Union government regarding these critical issues.
Ghose also pointed out that during the military operations against Pakistan under Operation Sindoor, the BJP attempted to portray the Prime Minister as the sole leader in this battle against terrorism, overshadowing the contributions of the Indian soldiers.
She concluded by stating that only Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister of West Bengal, displayed genuine concern for the situation in Jammu and Kashmir following the Pahalgam massacre.
"This is why she promptly dispatched a Trinamool Congress delegation to the border villages in Jammu and Kashmir," Ghose noted.
