Kolkata, June 10 (NationPress) West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, while speaking in the Assembly on the second day of the Monsoon session on Tuesday, accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of politicizing the achievements of the Indian Armed Forces during Operation Sindoor, the military operation that dismantled several terrorist bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir last month.
A special motion was introduced in the Assembly to discuss and condemn the tragic killing of 26 tourists in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir on April 22, while also commending the coordinated efforts of the various branches of the Indian Armed Forces in retaliatory actions.
During the debate, the Chief Minister also claimed that the Pahalgam massacre on April 22 was due to the Union government's negligence in ensuring proper security measures at and around the site of the attack.
"The Union government still lacks any information regarding where the terrorists originated from and where they vanished after the attack. None of them have been apprehended so far," CM Banerjee stated as she participated in the discussion.
She further expressed that it was a diplomatic failure on India's part that allowed Islamabad to gain positions on key counter-terrorism committees at the UN Security Council.
"There were lapses in India's diplomatic relations," the Chief Minister questioned.
She also criticized the BJP and the Union government for targeting a specific community in the aftermath of the Pahalgam massacre.
"I want to make it clear that terrorism has no religion. I stand against terrorism in all its forms," CM Banerjee emphasized.
Additionally, she remarked that the recent retaliatory strike against Pakistan presented India with a prime opportunity to reclaim Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir.
"I give full credit to the Indian Armed Forces for the successful military operation. However, I believe the Union government could have taken a firmer stance this time," she expressed.
On this occasion, she once again accused the BJP of exploiting Operation Sindoor for narrow political gains.
"We honor Sindoor. However, you do not respect women and Sindoor, and hence you are politicizing Operation Sindoor. Why did the Prime Minister avoid visiting the site of the horrific murder of the tourists?" the Chief Minister questioned.
