New Delhi, Sep 8 (NationPress) In a strong rebuttal to Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge’s remarks regarding Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s rapport with US President Donald Trump, BJP MP Jagdambika Pal labeled the comments as unfounded.

In an interview with IANS, Pal remarked, “Despite the tariffs, US President Donald Trump stated that Narendra Modi is among the finest leaders globally. If Mallikarjun Kharge continues to make such statements after this, it is sheer nonsense.”

This reaction follows Kharge's attempt to minimize the significance of the apparent friendship between PM Modi and President Trump, questioning its implications for India's national interests.

During a press briefing on Sunday, Kharge asserted, “Trump and Modi may share a friendship, but Modi has turned into an adversary of the nation. He has tainted the atmosphere… Trump imposed a significant tariff. After a 50% tariff, he devastated our people. The nation should come first, with friendship taking a back seat.”

The exchange ensued after both leaders recently reaffirmed their diplomatic ties.

At a White House press conference on Friday, President Trump characterized Modi as a “great Prime Minister,” adding, “I’ll always maintain my friendship with Prime Minister Modi… India and the United States share a special bond. There’s nothing to be concerned about.”

This comment followed earlier worries regarding India-US trade relations, where Trump had reportedly voiced discontent over tariffs. However, his latest statements suggest a softening of his stance.

PM Modi responded on Saturday, expressing gratitude and reciprocation for the US President’s remarks, highlighting the importance of India-US relations for global peace and collaboration.

“I deeply appreciate and fully reciprocate President Trump's sentiments and positive evaluation of our relationship. India and the US enjoy a very optimistic and forward-looking Comprehensive and Global Strategic Partnership,” PM Modi posted on X.

Point of View

It is essential to evaluate the statements made by both BJP and Congress leaders with a critical lens. While BJP representatives defend Modi's international relationships, Congress emphasizes national priorities over diplomatic friendships. The discourse reflects a broader debate about the balance between personal diplomacy and national welfare.
