Jammu, March 14 (NationPress) The Kashmiri Pandit organization ‘Panun Kashmir’ announced on Saturday the immediate expulsion of its chairman, Ajay Chrungoo, due to accusations regarding his alleged foreign affiliations.

A notice released by Panun Kashmir indicated that the organization has taken this step to initiate an investigation into Chrungoo's purported foreign connections, which allegedly include interactions with Ghulam Nabi Fai, a US-based agent linked to the Pakistani ISI.

“Tito Ganju has been appointed as the new chairman,” the notice specified.

Chrungoo was not reachable for comments at the time.

Panun Kashmir ('Our Own Kashmir') is a socio-political entity and movement advocating for a Union Territory in the Kashmir Valley.

Established in response to the 1990 exodus of Kashmiri Hindus, it seeks a distinct, centrally administered homeland for this community, particularly in the southern and eastern regions of the valley.

This demand was formally articulated through the Margdarshan Resolution of 1991, which aimed to create a secure territory for Kashmiri Pandits who had to flee their homes due to terrorism.

The proposed homeland insists on central administration to protect the safety, cultural identity, and political rights of the Pandit community.

Panun Kashmir serves as a voice for the displaced Kashmiri Pandit community, concentrating on their rehabilitation and the acknowledgment of their exodus as an act of ethnic cleansing.

The movement firmly opposes any autonomy for Jammu and Kashmir that could empower extremist factions and advocates for complete integration with India.

As a significant advocate for displaced Pandits, the movement calls for their safe return to a secure homeland within the Kashmir Valley.

The organization has continuously lobbied for a separate Union Territory and has been a strong supporter of the abrogation of Article 370 and Article 35A.

Another political group, Ikkjutt Jammu, is openly in favor of a separate Panun Kashmir for Kashmiri Pandits and the division of the Jammu region from Kashmir.

Point of View

This expulsion highlights the complexities within the Kashmiri Pandit movement, showcasing the challenges faced by Panun Kashmir in maintaining integrity while advocating for a separate homeland for the community. This incident emphasizes the need for transparency and accountability in leadership roles.
