Bengaluru, Oct 27 (NationPress) In the midst of a leadership conflict, Karnataka's Home Minister G. Parameshwara has expressed his support for senior party member and Minister for Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs, K.H. Muniyappa, who hails from the Dalit community, to assume the role of Chief Minister.
Addressing journalists in Bengaluru on Monday, Parameshwara highlighted Muniyappa's credentials as a seasoned leader.
“Muniyappa, a seven-time MP, has demonstrated remarkable electoral success for the Congress party. Winning seven times is no small feat. He is a seasoned politician and a former Union Minister who has proven his efficiency. Should Muniyappa be appointed as Chief Minister, it would bring me great joy,” said Parameshwara.
“As we share a community background, I would naturally feel elated if our community were given a chance at leadership. The community that has faced prolonged oppression and marginalization—if it ascends to power, wouldn’t that be a cause for celebration? In this regard, Muniyappa's capabilities are commendable, and his ascension to Chief Minister would be a welcome development,” he added.
Parameshwara himself is also from the Dalit community.
When questioned about a potential cabinet reshuffle, Parameshwara remarked, “I have no insights on that, as the high command is responsible for such decisions. We should await their guidance. Speculating in the media could lead to unnecessary confusion. Has anyone from the high command provided information? We have no updates from them.”
“We can only respond when there is communication from the high command regarding cabinet changes, leadership shifts, or other developments. Any statements made by us lack weight unless they originate from the high command,” he reiterated.
“The high command will take all factors into account and make decisions accordingly. Initially, there were discussions about sharing power; now, there are talks of a cabinet reshuffle. This ongoing uncertainty adversely affects governance. To enhance governance, this confusion must cease, and our focus should shift back to administration,” Parameshwara stated.
“North Karnataka and Bengaluru have experienced flooding, and road infrastructure issues persist, including potholes. Addressing these concerns necessitates a stronger emphasis on governance,” he continued.
Discussing various comments made by Congress leaders regarding cabinet reshuffles and leadership, Parameshwara stated, “It is clear who makes the decisions in the Congress party. Statements from a few individuals in Karnataka will not alter the situation. The high command will deliberate and assess the situation. With elections occurring in Bihar now, they will take appropriate actions if necessary afterward.”
These statements hold significance amid the ongoing leadership dispute within the ruling Congress party. Recently, a controversy was sparked when Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s son and MLC Yathindra Siddaramaiah suggested Minister for PWD Satish Jarkiholi as a potential successor to CM Siddaramaiah.
