New Delhi, Dec 1 (NationPress) Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Monday conveyed his optimism that every member of Parliament will provide a meaningful contribution to bolster the traditions of democracy and ensure the Winter Session is productive.
The Winter Session of Parliament commences today and is scheduled to run until December 19, comprising 15 sittings within the 19-day timeframe.
In a statement on X, Birla remarked, "The sixth session (Winter Session) of the 18th Lok Sabha is beginning today. Parliament serves as the highest platform for voicing the nation's expectations, the aspirations of the people, democratic principles, and the collective duty of elected officials."
"Every session of Parliament also directs us towards our duties, restraint, and public welfare, which enhances the essence of people's representation. It is anticipated that all esteemed members will fortify the healthy traditions of democracy and actively engage to make this session fruitful," he further stated.
The government has prepared a substantial legislative agenda, with at least 13 bills poised for introduction, including significant economic and national security-related proposals. Concurrently, the Opposition is gearing up to exert pressure on the government regarding the SIR issue, national security worries, and various unresolved topics.
Among the notable bills expected for introduction are the Central Excise Amendment Bill, 2025 and the Health Security National Security Cess Bill, 2025.
The Opposition has already made it clear that they will seek an immediate and thorough discussion on the SIR issue.
They have cautioned that disruptions may be unavoidable if the government does not permit debate. Additionally, the Opposition plans to address national security issues, particularly following the recent Delhi terror blast, alongside matters related to labor codes, the role of Governors, and outstanding dues owed to states.
