Patna Police Seizes Drugs Worth Rs 25 Crore in Major Bust

Patna, March 28 (NationPress) In a significant enforcement action, police have confiscated a substantial amount of brown sugar, along with the raw materials used in its production, estimated to be worth approximately Rs 25 crore, as reported by law enforcement officials on Saturday.
The Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Patna, Kartikeya Sharma, verified the drug seizure.
During a press briefing, SSP Sharma stated, "We are actively investigating cases of drug abuse in this locality. A raid was executed yesterday in the Alamganj police station zone, resulting in the apprehension of two suspects. A sum of cash and 1.6 kg of brown sugar were seized from them."
"Upon interrogation, the suspects disclosed the existence of a factory-like facility. Following up on this lead, we recovered around 20 kg of raw materials and firearms. In total, approximately 21.018 kg of high-quality smack (brown sugar) has been seized, with a value close to Rs 25 crore," he added.
Elaborating on the items recovered, the Patna SSP mentioned, "The smack seized weighs around 21 kg. Additionally, we found two firearms, ammunition, several blank and signed cheques, among other items."
SSP Sharma further stressed that measures will soon be taken against other individuals implicated in the drug trafficking and distribution network.
"We are tracing both the upstream and downstream connections, including suppliers and sellers. We are closely monitoring these individuals and will be making arrests shortly," he noted.
He also revealed that a member of the Bihar Police is implicated in the case.
"The name of an individual connected to the Bihar Police has emerged in the investigation. We are currently in the process of gathering more information. This individual is presently evading capture but will soon be apprehended and interrogated," he said.
Notably, a prior collaborative operation by the police and the Narcotics Cell in the Samastipur district of Bihar had dismantled a drug trafficking ring, resulting in the arrest of two suspects and the seizure of heroin valued at approximately Rs 6 lakh.
A statement from the Superintendent of Police's office indicated that specific intelligence was received on the morning of March 21, indicating that members of a narcotics syndicate were expected to arrive at Shahpur Patori railway station with a shipment of heroin.
