Johannesburg, July 17 (NationPress) - On Thursday, Cricket South Africa (CSA) announced that Patrick Moroney has been named the new convenor selector for the national men’s cricket team. Earlier this year, CSA revealed plans to reinstate the national convenor selector position and called for applications by April 29.
The position remained vacant following Victor Mpitsang’s departure in 2023. Since then, Test coach Shukri Conrad and limited-overs coach Rob Walter managed team selections until the latter stepped down after the 2025 Champions Trophy, leading to Conrad overseeing all formats.
Moroney brings a wealth of experience, having held roles such as Director of Sport and Marketing at the high school level and various selector positions, including the Youth Men Talent Identification Programme and the Lions Cricket Convenor of Selectors.
With a selection career spanning back to 2001, he has previously been the Convenor of Selectors for the SA National Academy, SA Emerging, and U19 teams. “CSA is proud to appoint Patrick in this important role as Convenor Selector for the Proteas Men’s Team,” stated Enoch Nkwe, Director of National Teams and High Performance.
“His profound understanding of cricket, paired with decades of experience in talent scouting and selection, makes him exceptionally qualified for this position. We eagerly anticipate his contributions,” Nkwe added.
As the newly appointed Convenor Selector, Moroney will report directly to Nkwe and collaborate closely with head coach Conrad. His base will be at the CSA Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Pretoria, with his official start date set for August 1.
