Family of Baramati Plane Crash Victim Claims Owner Intimidation
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Mumbai, March 10 (NationPress) The relatives of Pinky Mali, a flight attendant who tragically lost her life in the Baramati plane crash, have accused the owner of the involved charter company of trying to intimidate them into silence regarding media interactions.
The family claims that VSR owner V.K. Singh allegedly threatened Pinky Mali's brother, Karan Mali, against making any public statements about the incident.
Pinky Mali was one of the passengers aboard the chartered aircraft that crashed in Baramati, which also resulted in the death of Maharashtra's Deputy Chief Minister, the late Ajit Pawar.
Karan Mali recounted to IANS that he received a call from Singh shortly after the accident.
“On February 28, I got a call from VSR's owner, V.K. Singh. He raised his voice and inquired about what my father was saying to the media. I offered to connect him with my father directly, but he refused, insisting I relay his message instead,” Karan Mali explained.
He continued, stating that he subsequently contacted Rohit Pawar, a leader from the Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar faction) and nephew of Ajit Pawar, to update him on the situation.
“We have briefed Rohit Pawar about the developments. His support has kept this issue in the spotlight. We even reached out to the VSR owner recently concerning my sister’s insurance, to which he replied that we are making irresponsible statements to the media and should cease doing so,” he added.
“Initially, Singh seemed calm, but he pointed fingers at the pilot, claiming they are to blame for the crash. How can he place the blame solely on the pilot? They are exerting pressure on us,” Mali remarked.
Pinky Mali’s father, Shivkumar Mali, also addressed the alleged intimidation efforts, indicating that the family has been advised to refrain from media engagements.
“We received a message telling us to avoid media interactions. It was sent to my son's phone. We feel they might be trying to intimidate us, or perhaps they are just speaking casually — it's hard to decipher over the phone. Nevertheless, they are clearly instructing us not to make any public statements. To whom should we express our sorrow?” Shivkumar Mali expressed.
He further conveyed his disappointment at the lack of assistance from both the government and the VSR company since the tragic event.
“We need support, but it has not materialized. Neither the government nor the VSR company has offered us any help,” he concluded.
