New Delhi, Jan 25 (NationPress) On National Voters' Day celebrated on Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed MY-Bharat volunteers and the youth of India, encouraging them to honor their journey as new voters.

He emphasized that being a voter is the "greatest privilege and responsibility" in a democratic society and appealed to educational institutions nationwide to commemorate the moment their students gain the right to vote.

The Prime Minister remarked that the new generation is enthusiastic about contributing positively with a 'Can Do' spirit and urged young people to promote awareness about the significance of registering to vote.

In his letter, PM Modi expressed, "Greetings to you, your family and friends on National Voters' Day! I feel honored to connect with you as a fellow citizen passionate about Indian democracy."

He pointed out that India is often referred to as the world's largest democracy, and rightly so, but we also take pride in being the Mother of Democracy, with a rich history of democratic values spanning centuries. Democracy, debate, and dialogue are deeply ingrained in our culture.

The Prime Minister reminded everyone that this year marks 75 years since India conducted its first General Election, starting in 1951 and concluding in 1952, showcasing the inherent democratic spirit of the Indian populace.

He stated, "Being a voter is the greatest privilege and responsibility in a democracy. Voting is a sacred constitutional right and a commitment to shaping Bharat's future. The voter plays a critical role in our development narrative. That indelible ink on a finger symbolizes a badge of honor, ensuring our democracy stays vibrant and meaningful."

PM Modi acknowledged that many young people are first-time voters, a moment he believes carries "great significance" for them. "Our first-time voters should be welcomed into democracy as individuals who possess the power to change the future of our nation," he stated.

He encouraged people to celebrate when they or someone they know votes for the first time, calling January 25 an "ideal occasion" for such celebrations.

"At home and in our communities, we can celebrate this milestone by sharing sweets. Our schools and colleges are essential as nurseries of democratic values. I encourage them to honor this milestone of youth becoming first-time voters with ceremonies that recognize students reaching voting age, making them feel truly special as they embrace this new responsibility. Our educational campuses can also serve as centers for initiatives ensuring every eligible youth registers as a voter," he added.

Praising the dedication of voters in India, the Prime Minister remarked, "To the world, the scale of our elections represents a logistical triumph. To us, elections are a festival of democracy where we unite to celebrate the significance of being a voter."

He noted that the commitment to voting is so profound that whether individuals reside in the heights of the Himalayas, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, deserts, or dense forests, they ensure their voices are heard. This dedication to democratic principles will inspire us for years to come," he added.

Commending the involvement of India's Nari Shakti, particularly young women, PM Modi deemed it essential for fostering an inclusive democracy.

"Their awareness and proactive participation have fortified the foundations of Bharat," he said.

He stated that the youth's engagement with the Mera Yuva Bharat or MY Bharat platform signifies a "commitment to serve and lead."

"You belong to a generation that does not wait for opportunities; you actively create them with a 'Can Do' spirit. You can raise awareness about the importance of voting," he added.

"Let us pledge to strengthen our democracy and work towards a developed, inclusive, and self-reliant Bharat. Once again, my warm greetings on National Voters' Day!"
