Lachit Diwas is celebrated on November 24 to commemorate the extraordinary bravery and leadership of Lachit Borphukan, particularly during the 1671 Battle of Saraighat, where the Ahom forces triumphed over Mughal troops. This day not only marks his birth anniversary but also celebrates his enduring legacy of valor, strategy, and unwavering dedication to defending his homeland.
In a message shared on X, PM Modi remarked, "On Lachit Diwas, we honor Lachit Borphukan, a beacon of courage, patriotism, and exemplary leadership. His valor continues to motivate countless generations. He was instrumental in preserving the rich culture of Assam."
The Prime Minister also released a video tribute, commending Lachit Borphukan's fearlessness.

"His valiant legacy continues to motivate our generations today. On Lachit Day, we pay our respects to that courageous warrior who never allowed the nation to kneel," CM Sarma added.
