New Delhi, Aug 17 (NationPress) On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi conducted an extensive roadshow at the Mundka-Bakkarwala Village Toll Plaza in New Delhi, mere hours ahead of the launch of two significant highway initiatives—the Delhi segments of the Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II) and the Dwarka Expressway.
Numerous individuals gathered along the roads to catch a glimpse of the Prime Minister as he warmly greeted the crowd.
During his visit, he also engaged with the workers involved in the construction of the highway, recognizing their hard work in realizing the project.
The Prime Minister assessed the progress of the UER-II alongside Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, and Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini.
PM Modi officially inaugurated the two highway projects during a ceremony held in Rohini, located in northwest Delhi. The projects are valued at approximately Rs 11,000 crore, which the Union government views as a pivotal measure to address ongoing traffic congestion in Delhi and improve connectivity throughout the National Capital Region (NCR).
According to the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), "These initiatives embody PM Modi's vision for developing world-class infrastructure that guarantees seamless mobility," the PMO remarked.
Officials foresee that these corridors will shorten travel durations, redirect heavy freight traffic from the city center, and alleviate the plight of commuters caught in Delhi's notoriously congested Inner and Outer Ring Roads.
Among the two projects, the standout is the 54.21-km section of the Urban Extension Road-II. Constructed at a cost of Rs 5,580 crore, the six-lane highway commences at Alipur and traverses through Bawana, Rohini, Mundka, Bakkarwala, Najafgarh, and Dwarka before concluding at Dichaon Kalan. Designed under the Delhi Master Plan Road 2021 as the capital's third ring road, the corridor also provides essential connections to Bahadurgarh and Sonipat.
Authorities are optimistic that once operational, the corridor will alleviate pressure on Delhi's already crowded Inner and Outer Ring Roads, as well as ease congestion in some of the city's busiest traffic points, including Mukarba Chowk, Dhaula Kuan, and NH-9.
