How Did PM Modi Honor Ahilyabai Holkar's Legacy in Madhya Pradesh?

Bhopal, May 31 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the Devi Ahilyabai Mahila Sashaktikaran Mahasammelan in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, to commemorate the 300th birth anniversary of Ahilyabai Holkar, the esteemed ruler of Malwa. This event was not only a celebration of her remarkable legacy but also a stage for launching significant development initiatives across the state.

During the gathering, the Prime Minister expressed deep respect for Ahilyabai Holkar, referring to her as a “great protector” of India’s cultural and spiritual heritage.

“Devi Ahilyabai believed that genuine governance is about serving the populace and enhancing their quality of life. Today’s event embodies her vision,” he remarked to a large audience that included members of Self-Help Groups, Anganwadi workers, and beneficiaries of the Ladli Behna scheme.

PM Modi reflected on Ahilyabai’s historical significance during a time of colonial rule, stating, “Three hundred years ago, while our nation was under the yoke of oppression, she accomplished such remarkable feats that future generations will continue to celebrate them. Lokmata Ahilyabai viewed service to God and to people as a unified endeavor.”

He lauded her governance model, highlighting her contributions to agriculture, rural industries, and canal systems at a time when such progress was scarce.

“Devi Ahilyabai was a true guardian of India’s heritage. In an era when our temples and sacred sites were under threat, she took decisive steps to safeguard them,” the Prime Minister asserted.

“If you visit Kashi Vishwanath Mahadev today, you will discover a statue of Devi Ahilyabai there. She adopted an exemplary governance model that prioritized the underprivileged. To foster employment and entrepreneurship, she initiated numerous schemes, promoted agriculture, supported forest-based cottage industries, and revitalized handicrafts. She also established a network of small canals to enhance farming. This vision was laid three centuries ago,” he explained.

On this historic day, PM Modi inaugurated and laid the groundwork for major infrastructure projects designed to propel development in Madhya Pradesh.

These projects included the Indore Metro Rail, the redevelopment of Kshipra Ghat in Ujjain, and new airports in Satna and Datia.

The launch of the Indore Metro represents a significant achievement for the city, renowned for its cleanliness. The metro's initial phase extends six kilometers from Gandhi Nagar Depot to Station Number Three, with complimentary rides available for a week. The complete 31-kilometer line is anticipated to enhance public transportation and lessen environmental impact.

“Today, the Indore Metro has commenced operations, and air services now connect Datia and Satna. These initiatives will improve facilities in Madhya Pradesh, stimulate development, and generate numerous new job opportunities,” stated the Prime Minister.

Ahilyabai Holkar, born on May 31, 1725, in Chondi, Maharashtra, ascended to power following the deaths of her husband and son. She governed the Holkar state of Indore for nearly three decades, earning the title of 'Philosopher Queen of Malwa' for her visionary leadership, social reforms, and the revival of Hindu pilgrimage sites.
