New Delhi, Aug 15 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep sorrow on Friday following the passing of Tamil Nadu Governor La. Ganesan, who died in Chennai at the age of 80.
In a post on X, the Prime Minister stated: "I am deeply saddened by the demise of Nagaland Governor Thiru La. Ganesan Ji. He will be remembered as a committed nationalist, devoting his life to service and nation-building. His efforts in expanding the BJP in Tamil Nadu were commendable, and he had a profound love for Tamil culture. My heartfelt condolences to his family and followers. Om Shanti."
La. Ganesan, a former Rajya Sabha MP, passed away in Chennai on Friday evening at the age of 80. He had been receiving treatment at Apollo Hospitals for a serious head injury sustained from a fall at his residence in T. Nagar on August 8.
Despite receiving comprehensive medical care and undergoing surgery, he succumbed at 6:23 p.m.
According to hospital reports, Ganesan was discovered unconscious at home and quickly admitted to the ICU. Doctors found internal injuries from the fall, and although surgery was conducted, his condition remained critical.
Over the past week, his health progressively worsened until he succumbed to his injuries.
Born in Thanjavur district of Tamil Nadu, La. Ganesan began his political career with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) before aligning with the Bharatiya Janata Party.
Renowned for his organizational acumen and steadfast loyalty to the party, he ascended to the position of president of the Tamil Nadu BJP and later represented Madhya Pradesh in the Rajya Sabha.
Throughout the years, he played a significant role in fortifying the BJP’s presence, particularly in southern India, earning respect for his direct and disciplined approach.
In August 2021, he was appointed as the Governor of Manipur, a role he maintained until February 2023. During this time, he also temporarily held the governorship of West Bengal from July to November 2022.
On February 20, 2023, Ganesan took office as the 19th Governor of Nagaland, where he continued to serve until his death.
