Chennai, Aug 15 (NationPress) The Governor of Nagaland, La. Ganesan, who previously served as a Rajya Sabha MP, passed away in Chennai on Friday evening at the age of 80. He had been receiving treatment at Apollo Hospitals for severe head injuries caused by a fall at his residence in T. Nagar on August 8.

Despite receiving extensive medical treatment and undergoing surgery, he unfortunately passed away at 6:23 p.m., a moment that coincided with the nation’s 79th Independence Day.

As per hospital reports, Ganesan was discovered unconscious at his home and was immediately taken to the ICU. Medical professionals identified internal injuries from the fall, and although a surgical procedure was carried out, his condition remained critical.

His health continued to worsen over the past week until he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.

Born in Thanjavur district, Tamil Nadu, La. Ganesan began his political journey in the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) before becoming a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Recognized for his organizational capabilities and steadfast loyalty to the party, he ascended to the position of president of the Tamil Nadu BJP and later represented Madhya Pradesh in the Rajya Sabha.

Over the years, he played an active role in fortifying the BJP’s presence, particularly in southern India, and was admired for his straightforward and disciplined demeanor.

In August 2021, he was appointed as the Governor of Manipur, a role he held until February 2023. During this time, he also took on additional responsibilities as the Governor of West Bengal from July to November 2022.

On February 20, 2023, Ganesan took office as the 19th Governor of Nagaland, serving until his passing.

Throughout his gubernatorial roles, Ganesan was viewed as a stable constitutional authority, fostering cordial relationships with state governments while respecting the directives from the Centre.

His time in Nagaland was characterized by engagement with various stakeholders on developmental issues, and he was appreciated for his approachable nature.

The news of his passing has elicited condolences from political leaders across the board.

Many remember him as a public servant dedicated to his duties, whose extensive career intertwined grassroots activism with constitutional obligations.
