Chennai, Feb 22 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during the 131st episode of his monthly radio show, 'Mann Ki Baat', recognized former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa as a “cherished and esteemed leader”. He reflected on her impactful leadership and their personal friendship.

The Prime Minister characterized Jayalalithaa as a prominent figure in Tamil Nadu's political arena, noting that her contributions would be regarded as a vibrant emblem of women’s leadership.

“Jayalalithaa was an extraordinary leader who held a special place in the hearts of many. My bond with her is akin to a sacred tree within me,” PM Modi stated during the broadcast.

Emphasizing her governance methods, the Prime Minister remarked that Jayalalithaa took decisive actions to uphold law and order in Tamil Nadu, earning the trust of her constituents through her resolute leadership.

He mentioned that her public service would eternally signify women’s empowerment in Indian politics.

As Jayalalithaa’s birth anniversary approaches on February 24, PM Modi expressed that he continues to perceive the affection the populace of Tamil Nadu has for her whenever he visits.

“Even today, during my travels to Tamil Nadu, I can feel the profound bond the people share with Jayalalithaa. Her name invokes a unique spark among them,” he said.

Recalling his experiences as Gujarat Chief Minister, PM Modi noted, “Every interaction and discussion with Amma Jayalalithaa remains vivid in my memory. She was present at two of my swearing-in ceremonies in Gujarat, in 2002 and 2012. As we both served as Chief Ministers, our discussions often revolved around effective governance. Her clarity of thought was remarkable. Many years back, she welcomed me to Chennai for lunch on the auspicious occasion of Pongal, a gesture I will forever cherish.”

PM Modi acknowledged Jayalalithaa's substantial support for Gujarat during his tenure.

“Her dedication to the nation was evident as she worked diligently towards its progress,” he added.

The Prime Minister’s comments hold political weight as Tamil Nadu prepares for the forthcoming Assembly elections.

The AIADMK-BJP-led National Democratic Alliance has ramped up its political outreach in the region, and PM Modi’s tribute to the late AIADMK general secretary and former Chief Minister is perceived as a strategy to engage with her lasting support base.

Jayalalithaa, affectionately referred to as “Amma” by her followers, continues to be a significant figure in Tamil Nadu’s political landscape, even years after her demise.
