New Delhi, May 22 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday conducted a virtual inauguration of 103 Amrit Bharat railway stations across 18 states, marking a significant upgrade in India's railway infrastructure. Among the newly refurbished stations, two are situated in Bihar — Pirpainti and Thawe, while three can be found in West Bengal — Panagarh, Kalyani Ghoshpara, and Joychandi Pahar.
These enhancements are part of the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS), a forward-thinking initiative aimed at transforming over 1,300 railway stations across the country into modern, accessible, and passenger-friendly hubs.
A standout from West Bengal is the upgraded Joychandi Pahar station, located within the Adra division of the South Eastern Railway. The renovations have been carried out at a cost of nearly Rs 11.5 crore and are anticipated to greatly enhance local tourism, as per Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Sumit Narula.
"I want to express my gratitude to Prime Minister Modi for this initiative. We are immensely thankful," Narula remarked.
He stressed that the revamped station will play a vital role in enhancing regional connectivity and tourism potential.
Local resident Sanjida shared her enthusiasm, stating: "The station has undergone a complete transformation. It’s now cleaner, more organized, and provides facilities that benefit both residents and travelers. I am genuinely delighted."
In Bihar, the Pirpainti railway station in Bhagalpur was similarly inaugurated by the Prime Minister under the same scheme. The station's transformation has sparked a wave of optimism in the area.
Dilip Mishra, a local resident, expressed his gratitude: "We never thought our station could be upgraded like this. It’s a moment of pride. I thank PM Modi for making this happen."
Another local, Jhumpha Singh, added: "This redevelopment will benefit farmers, students, and the entire community. Better connectivity will create new opportunities. I believe this station will soon evolve into a junction."
Akanksha Kumari, a student from Pirpainti, remarked: "We were shown the upgraded facilities, and they are genuinely impressive. All credit goes to PM Modi’s vision and efforts."
The Amrit Bharat Station Scheme is a long-term strategy by Indian Railways to revamp stations according to individual needs and phased development plans. It prioritizes modern passenger amenities, eco-friendly infrastructure, and improved inter-modal connectivity, integrating bus and metro transport for seamless travel.
Particular attention is given to the accessibility of Divyangjan, including the installation of ramps, elevators, tactile paths, and designated waiting areas. The stations also feature aesthetically pleasing facades, renovated platforms, landscaped entry zones, roof plazas, digital signage, food courts, kiosks, and children's play areas.
With the inauguration of these five stations in Bihar and West Bengal, the ABSS continues to demonstrate its commitment to creating a more efficient, inclusive, and world-class railway experience for millions of daily commuters throughout India.
