New Delhi, Jan 25 (NationPress) As Republic Day approaches, President Droupadi Murmu has officially sanctioned the presentation of 131 Padma Awards for the year 2026, which includes two duo cases (where the Award is recognized as a single case).

The Padma Awards, recognized as one of the nation's highest civilian honors, are categorized into three distinct levels: Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri.

These prestigious awards are granted across a multitude of fields including art, social work, public affairs, science and engineering, trade and industry, medicine, literature, education, sports, and civil service.

The Padma Vibhushan is awarded for outstanding and distinguished service; the Padma Bhushan for high-order distinguished service, and the Padma Shri for notable service across various fields. The announcement of the awards occurs every year on Republic Day.

The conferment ceremony takes place at Rashtrapati Bhawan and is typically held around March or April each year.
