New Delhi, Aug 6 (NationPress) Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy asserted that there is apparent pressure from the Union government on President Droupadi Murmu to refrain from granting appointments to Congress leaders. These leaders are advocating for Presidential assent on two significant Bills that were passed by the state legislature, aimed at securing 42 per cent reservation for backward classes.
During a dharna at Jantar Mantar, Revanth Reddy expressed his concerns to the media, suggesting that the President is under undue pressure.
He mentioned that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah had recently met with the President. "I believe they are pressuring the President to withhold appointments for the people of Telangana," he remarked.
The Chief Minister highlighted that the entire state Cabinet, along with MPs, MLAs, MLCs, and OBC leaders from across Telangana, are rallying in Delhi to urge the approval of the BC reservation Bills.
Labeling PM Modi as anti-OBC, Revanth Reddy stated that this is a struggle between pro-OBC and anti-OBC factions.
He added, "If the Prime Minister agrees to the demand for 42 per cent BC reservation, that would be great. Otherwise, we will work to defeat him in the next elections and support Rahul Gandhi to become Prime Minister to ensure the 42 per cent BC reservation becomes a reality."
Revanth Reddy emphasized that as per Rahul Gandhi's commitment during the Bharat Jodo Yatra, the Congress conducted a caste survey after gaining power in Telangana, leading to the drafting and passing of two Bills in the Assembly to enhance BC reservation.
He pointed out that the Governor has sent these Bills to the President for assent, but after four months, there has been no response. "This led us to take our fight from the streets to the Parliament," he stated.
He mentioned that Congress MPs are raising this issue in Parliament, supported by members of the INDIA bloc, yet there has been no acknowledgment from the government.
Revanth Reddy expressed disappointment regarding the lack of response to the request for an appointment with the President. "This is regrettable," he said.
He reiterated, "We are hopeful for an appointment. If Modi does not address us in Parliament, we won't return to Delhi. Those visiting Telangana must respond. We will ensure the BJP is removed from Telangana and sent packing to Delhi," he declared.
He dismissed claims from BJP leaders that Muslims are included in the BC reservation Bills, clarifying that these Bills are exclusively for BCs. He urged Central ministers Kishan Reddy and Bandi Sanjay to properly read the Bills.
"These are mere tactics to deny justice to BCs by invoking the Muslim community's name. BCs are educated and will hold the BJP accountable," he asserted.
Revanth Reddy further challenged the BJP to abolish Muslim reservation in Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Uttar Pradesh.
