'BJP Suddenly Reveres Nehru': Priyanka Gandhi's Remark in Lok Sabha
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, March 10 (NationPress) Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra took a pointed jab at the ruling party in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday, highlighting the irony of leaders who regularly disparage India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, now quoting him to bolster their arguments.
During a debate concerning a resolution for the removal of Om Birla from his position as Speaker, Priyanka expressed amusement over the sudden admiration for Nehru by those who often criticize him for his contributions to Indian democracy.
“I found it quite humorous today because the individual they criticize daily — Nehru ji — is now being quoted by them. Suddenly, they have begun to honor Nehru ji. Today, they acknowledged that the person who made democracy robust was Nehru ji,” she stated, garnering significant support from the Opposition.
Her comments emerged during a fiery political discussion regarding Speaker Birla. Priyanka seized the opportunity to point out what she deemed a contradiction in the ruling party's perception of Nehru’s legacy.
Moreover, she staunchly defended Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, asserting that he has remained resolute despite persistent government attacks.
“The only individual in this country who has not bowed to them over the past twelve years is the Leader of the Opposition, Rahul Gandhi. He stands here, articulating the truth without fear, a truth they find hard to accept,” she remarked.
Earlier, Kiren Rijiju, the Parliamentary Affairs Minister, stated that all members of Parliament, whether from the ruling party or the Opposition, must adhere to the guidelines of the Constitution.
“When anyone places themselves above the law, it is essential that their actions be challenged,” Rijiju commented, in what many interpreted as a direct jab at Rahul Gandhi.
