Bhopal, Sep 26 (NationPress) Senior BJP politician and Madhya Pradesh Urban Affairs Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya's comments during a recent event ignited a political uproar after he targeted the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, and his sister, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, for their open affection towards each other.
During a party event in Shajapur district on Thursday, Vijayvargiya remarked, “Our opposition leaders today are such that they kiss their young sisters in the middle of a crossroads. I want to ask you, who among you kisses your young sisters or daughters in public? This is a lack of values.”
The BJP Minister made this statement while emphasizing the values of Indian culture.
He continued, 'We are people of an ancient culture. In our sisters’ village, we don’t even drink the water. In Jirapur, where my aunt lived, my father would carry a pot of water from home.”
These remarks led to significant political backlash after a brief clip of his speech circulated on social media on Friday, leading the Congress party to denounce the BJP leader's comments as 'outrageous'.
The Madhya Pradesh Congress, in a statement released on Friday, stated, “Kailash Vijayvargiya has sullied the culture of the entire nation with his shocking remark about the sacred bond between brother and sister. His statement exemplifies the BJP's toxic mindset.”
The Congress party stressed that the connection between Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is a sacred one, akin to that of any brother and sister.
“However, leaders like Kailash Vijayvargiya tarnish this sacred bond. This is not merely an attack on Congress, but a disgraceful attempt to undermine the dignity of every brother and sister in the nation,” the Congress statement articulated.
The Minister's remarks were perceived as a subtle jab at Rahul Gandhi, who is frequently seen embracing or kissing his sister Priyanka at public events and rallies.
In comments to the press, state Congress chief Jitu Patwari noted that Kailash Vijayvargiya chose Navratri—a festival devoted to the worship of the Mother Goddess—to insult the sacred bond between brothers and sisters.
“Everyone knows his language. He has repeatedly insulted women—sometimes regarding their attire, sometimes about their education, and sometimes their speech. This reflects his mindset towards sisters and daughters. Frankly, I feel ashamed even to respond to such a shameless comment,” Patwari expressed.
This controversy has once again brought Vijayvargiya, long recognized for his provocative rhetoric, into the spotlight, with critics accusing him of blurring the line between political rivalry and personal attacks.
