Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, March 10 (NationPress) Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra took a firm stand on Tuesday, defending Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, asserting that he is the only individual who has not yielded to the BJP-led government.
These comments were made during a discussion regarding the motion for the removal of Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla.
While presiding over the House, Krishna Prasad Tenneti allowed Priyanka to express her views during the ongoing debate.
In her address, she criticized the ruling party, highlighting the irony of those who often disparage the legacy of former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru now using his quotes.
"It made me laugh today, as the very leaders who critique Nehru ji daily are now quoting him. It seems they have suddenly found respect for him, stating that he was the one who fortified our democracy," she remarked, prompting loud applause from the Opposition.
She continued to defend Rahul Gandhi, emphasizing his resilience in the face of ongoing governmental attacks.
"There is only one person in this nation who has not bent before this government over the last 12 years, and that is the Leader of Opposition, Rahul Gandhi. He speaks the truth, which they cannot bear to accept," Priyanka stated.
Her comments were made during a broader discussion in the House regarding the motion against Speaker Om Birla.
Earlier, Kiren Rijiju, the Parliamentary Affairs Minister, addressed the motion against Speaker Birla, stating that all members, regardless of their party affiliation, are expected to adhere to the laws and regulations set forth by the Constitution.
"When an individual elevates themselves above all else, it is crucial to call them out," he remarked, in a subtle reference to Rahul Gandhi.
