Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Dec 23 (NationPress) As Congress Lok Sabha member Imran Masood enthusiastically advocated for party general secretary and Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra as a potential Prime Ministerial candidate, her husband and businessman Robert Vadra remarked that such demands are common, but the current emphasis should be on crucial issues impacting the nation.
Masood’s comments were made in the context of criticism from the BJP, targeting Priyanka for her perceived lack of strong condemnation of violence against minorities in Bangladesh. In response to the swirling political discussions about her potential leadership role, Robert Vadra offered a thoughtful perspective.
In an exclusive conversation with IANS, Robert Vadra stated, “Everyone has their own demands. There are calls from various groups for Priyanka to step forward. Similarly, there are requests for me to enter politics. However, at this moment, we must concentrate on the pressing issues that affect the citizens of our country.”
Addressing the situation in Bangladesh, Vadra underscored the importance of unity and harmony over division.
“I have consistently advocated for brotherhood. Throughout my religious travels across the nation, I encounter individuals from diverse faiths, and I find that their sentiments are aligned. In times of hardship or prayer, they seek solace from their God, hoping for relief from their troubles,” he expressed.
He further emphasized that shared values among communities should steer public discussions.
“The essence of everyone’s prayers and thoughts is alike. I firmly believe that brotherhood should take precedence, and there should be no divisive Hindu-Muslim rifts. Engaging in such divisive actions is unacceptable. The focus must shift to critical issues such as pollution, education, and employment. Our nation faces numerous significant challenges that require our attention,” Vadra told IANS.
He noted that domestic issues should take priority over international concerns.
“Initially, we should prioritize our internal matters. Only then can we address issues regarding Bangladesh or other nations,” he added.
Additionally, Robert Vadra extended Christmas greetings, wishing for peace and unity across the country.
“I wish everyone a Merry Christmas. I pray for brotherhood nationwide and for the holistic health of our nation,” he remarked.
Highlighting environmental issues, Vadra insisted that significant national concerns must be debated seriously in Parliament, particularly pollution, which has reached alarming levels in the national capital.
“Being a resident of the national capital, I have observed that pollution has escalated uncontrollably. We must find solutions to alleviate this problem,” he stated.
He suggested that if domestic remedies are inadequate, international collaboration should be sought.
“If we cannot find solutions within our borders, we should seek international assistance, whether from China or other countries, to combat pollution. In the past, I actively participated in sports, but now I refrain from going outside due to pollution concerns. I also encourage others to limit their outdoor activities because of the severe air quality,” Vadra added.
Reflecting on the Winter Session of Parliament, he noted that while numerous issues were discussed, pollution did not receive the attention it warranted.
“Priyanka Gandhi also intended to raise the pollution issue in Parliament. Many topics were covered during the Winter Session, yet pollution was overlooked. This issue requires urgent attention,” he told IANS.
