Key Takeaways
Chandigarh, Jan 31 (NationPress) The core committee of the Bharatiya Janata Party, headed by Punjab President Sunil Jakhar, expressed its gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his planned visit to the state coinciding with the birth anniversary of Guru Ravidas, which is celebrated on Sunday.
Following a meeting where two significant resolutions were adopted, Jakhar remarked that the Prime Minister “recognizes the feelings of the people of Punjab” and is visiting to honor Guru Ravidas on a day that coincides with the Union Budget presentation in Parliament.
He mentioned that the core committee passed a resolution to thank the Prime Minister, emphasizing that this visit would further promote communal harmony within Punjab.
Regarding the second resolution, Jakhar highlighted that in the lead-up to the Prime Minister’s visit, there have been bomb threats in Jalandhar from anti-national groups, which he believes expose the shortcomings of the state government and the Police Department. He condemned the government for its inability to uphold law and order.
“If the security situation is precarious even before the Prime Minister’s arrival, one can only imagine the level of fear experienced by the ordinary citizens of Punjab,” he stated. The BJP state President criticized the government for allegedly using police forces to suppress dissent and restrict media freedom.
He pointed out the recent police actions against Punjab Kesari, other media entities, independent journalists, and social media influencers as indicative of the government's efforts to infringe upon freedom of speech. He asserted that the government would not be permitted to undermine media independence and public expression.
Jakhar characterized Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann as merely a “proxy” leader. He also remarked on the decline of AAP in Delhi, attributing it to the revelations about Arvind Kejriwal’s lavish residence, suggesting that similar secrets regarding a comparable establishment in Punjab are now emerging.
The BJP leader suggested that this might signify the beginning of AAP's downfall in Punjab. He concluded by stating that the populace of Punjab has resolved to remove the party from power in the upcoming elections, as they believe it has caused substantial harm to the state.
