Chandigarh, March 6 (NationPress) A large gathering of Congress supporters from Punjab rallied on Friday to protest against Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, criticizing it for failing to deliver on its promises to the citizens.

The protest specifically highlighted the unfulfilled commitment of providing Rs 1,000 monthly to women, which has not been honored, and the party demanded the government pay the accumulated dues for the past four years. The Congress party condemned the government for its overall incompetence, particularly concerning the breakdown of law and order and the state’s economic situation.

Initially, the Congress had intended to encircle the Vidhan Sabha on the inaugural day of the Budget Session. Party members gathered outside the Congress Bhawan before heading towards the Assembly.

However, police intervened and detained them, preventing access to the heavily secured Vidhan Sabha.

A significant police presence was established at the demonstration site to deter Congress activists from reaching the Assembly.

While addressing the crowd, Punjab Congress President Amarinder Singh Raja Warring stated that both the government and the Chief Minister have utterly failed the people. He noted that the state's debt has surpassed Rs 4 lakh crore and is projected to reach Rs 4.17 lakh crore shortly.

Warring emphasized that not a single rupee is being invested in Punjab, as funds are being misused by the AAP for election campaigns in states like Delhi, Gujarat, and Goa. He pointed out that there has been no progress on infrastructure development, with only extravagant spending on advertisements.

He reminded the government of its commitments, including the promised Rs 1,000 monthly stipend to women, the revival of the old pension scheme for employees, the overdue dearness allowance, and the claim of generating Rs 20,000 crore from sand mining.

Warring concluded by stating that the citizens of Punjab are now demanding answers after four years of AAP's governance.

Point of View

The protest underscores the growing discontent with the AAP government in Punjab. Promises made to the electorate remain unfulfilled, raising questions about governance and accountability. This situation highlights the need for political parties to honor their commitments to the public.
