Chandigarh, Feb 24 (NationPress) The Leader of Opposition in Punjab, Partap Singh Bajwa, disclosed on Monday that 32 legislators from the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) are currently in contact with the Congress, looking for a chance to change their allegiance.

In a casual discussion with the press ahead of the two-day Assembly session, Bajwa remarked that "the public has already lost faith in this government due to its continuous deception".

He criticized the Bhagwant Mann administration for postponing the delivery of the promised Rs 1,000 monthly assistance to women, a commitment made prior to the Assembly elections.

Bajwa further condemned AAP for not convening the Assembly session in December.

"At a time when the Budget session should have taken place, the government is simply going through the motions with today's meeting," he stated.

The Congress leader charged the government with shortcomings across the board, noting that the state's law and order situation is in disarray and the financial system has worsened.

He also criticized the BJP for evading issues that affect ordinary citizens.

Former BJP state chief and legislator Ashwani Sharma accused the government of neglecting public concerns and labeled today's session as merely procedural. When asked about the BJP's initiative to provide Rs 2,500 monthly to women in Delhi, he pointed out that AAP has failed to address their own promise of Rs 1,000 to Punjab's women for the last three years.

Meanwhile, the Assembly session commenced with tributes.

The house honored former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who passed away on December 26, 2024, alongside AAP legislator Gurpreet Singh Bassi, former minister and Rajya Sabha member Dharam Pal Sabharwal, former minister Ajaib Singh Mukhmailpur, former Rajya Sabha member H.S. Hanspal, and former legislators Joginder Pal Jain, Sukhwinder Singh Buttar, and Bhag Singh.

The House also remembered freedom fighters Karnail Singh, Kikkar Singh, and Kehar Singh, along with paying tribute to celebrated artist Jarnail Singh.

Bajwa, the Leader of Opposition and Qadian legislator, urged Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan to endorse a resolution proposing the highest civilian honor, Bharat Ratna, for Manmohan Singh.

During the session, opposition parties are anticipated to challenge AAP regarding issues of law and order, escalating debt, the deportation of illegal Indian immigrants, and the challenges faced by farmers.
