Chandigarh, April 23 (NationPress) In a move that underscores its dedication to proactive law enforcement and community well-being, the Punjab Police has initiated a unique road safety awareness campaign titled ‘I Am a Safety Hero’ on Wednesday.
The campaign was unveiled by the Traffic and Road Safety Wing of the Punjab Police, guided by Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav.
Additional Director General of Police (ADGP-Traffic and Road Safety) A.S. Rai formally introduced the initiative, which aims to mitigate the rising incidents of road accidents involving agricultural vehicles, especially tractor-trailers, through education, awareness, and shared accountability.
During the launch event, reflective safety stickers for tractor-trailers were presented, along with specially crafted Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials to support continuous awareness efforts throughout the year.
Navdeep Asija, Director of the Punjab Road Safety and Traffic Research Centre (PRSTRC), was also in attendance.
The ADGP mentioned that these materials will be disseminated among Traffic and Road Safety Education Cells across all districts and Commissionerates of the Punjab Police, impacting thousands of students and community members through organized programming.
To launch this significant campaign, a three-day Model Farmers’ Awareness Camp will commence at Asia’s largest grain market, Khanna, starting Thursday. An air-conditioned awareness booth will be set up at the Khanna Market Committee Office, featuring classroom-style seating for at least 10 focused awareness sessions, alongside street plays, distribution of safety gear, and live demonstrations for farmers, mandi workers, and transporters.
The camp will be inaugurated by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jyoti Yadav. Emphasizing that road safety is a primary concern for the Punjab Police, ADGP Rai remarked that this campaign symbolizes “our commitment to preventive education and community involvement, fostering enduring behavioral change and safer roads for our farmers.”
“Such initiatives highlight the strength of collaboration between law enforcement, industry, and the community. We believe that collective efforts will lead to better, more sustainable outcomes. This campaign aligns with our broader objective of creating a safer Punjab through preventive education, stakeholder engagement, and behavioral modification,” he added.
