Speaking to attendees in Tarn Taran, the Chief Minister remarked, “Today marks a pivotal moment for the rural regions of Punjab, as we commence the repair and upgrade of our link roads.” He emphasized that this initiative is historic, ensuring not only the repair of these roads but also their maintenance for the upcoming five years by contractors.
The Chief Minister noted that Punjab boasts a total of 30,237 link roads, spanning 64,878 km, with 33,492 km managed by the Punjab Mandi Board and 31,386 km overseen by the Public Works Department (PWD).
He elaborated that the current project focuses on repairing and upgrading 7,373 link roads, covering a total of 19,491.56 km. The project budget is set at Rs 4,150.42 crore, which encompasses five years of maintenance. According to the Chief Minister, the e-tendering process for this initiative has been finalized, ensuring that all operations will be carried out in a transparent and corruption-free manner. An artificial intelligence (AI) survey was conducted for these roads, leading to a savings of Rs 383.53 crore.

Participants included officials from the Mandi Board, contractors, and other stakeholders, all instructed to prioritize quality and assurance of proper maintenance.
Furthermore, to enhance public safety during foggy or dark conditions, a specialized road safety project will be executed on the improved link roads at a cost of Rs 91.83 crore.
