Moscow, Aug 7 (NationPress) It has been reported that Russian President Vladimir Putin is anticipated to visit India towards the end of August, according to a prominent news agency in Russia, referencing statements made by National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval during his current trip to Moscow.
"Our nations have cultivated exceptionally strong relations, which we hold in high regard, forming a strategic partnership. Our interactions are at a high level... We were delighted to hear about President Putin's scheduled visit to our nation at the end of August," quoted Interfax as NSA Doval spoke with Sergei Shoigu, the Secretary of the Russian Security Council, during their Thursday meeting in Moscow.
Previously, Kremlin aide Yury Ushakov confirmed that Putin is set to visit India following an invitation extended by Prime Minister Modi.
This visit is part of the ongoing commitment to annual discussions between the two leaders.
"Our leaders have an agreement to convene once a year. This time, it is our turn," Ushakov stated at a press briefing.
The last occasion of the Russian President visiting India was on December 6, 2021, during the 21st India-Russia Annual Summit held in New Delhi.
Meanwhile, PM Modi undertook two significant visits to Russia last year, participating in the 22nd Russia-India Summit in July and later joining the BRICS Summit in Kazan in October.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov noted that the political dialogue between India and Russia is "progressing dynamically" and that both nations share "close or even coinciding views on the emerging multipolar world order". He also mentioned that preparations are underway for President Putin's forthcoming visit to India.
"The relationship between our countries has a rich history. It has demonstrated resilience through various challenges. Currently, Russia and India are fostering equal cooperation founded on genuine mutual respect and recognition of each other's interests," Lavrov stated at the international conference 'Russia and India: Towards a New Agenda for Bilateral Relations', which was also attended by External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar in March this year.
"It is challenging to overstate our leaders' contributions to this process. It is significant that Prime Minister Modi chose to visit Russia for his first bilateral foreign trip post-re-election last year. Now, it is our turn. President Putin has accepted the invitation from the Indian government. The preparations for the Russian leader's visit to India are in progress," he added.
In June, President Putin sent a message of condolences to President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Modi regarding the tragic passenger plane crash in Ahmedabad.
"Please accept my heartfelt condolences for the tragic aftermath of the passenger plane crash in Ahmedabad. Please extend my sincere sympathy and support to the families of the victims, as well as wishes for a swift recovery to all injured in this disaster," Putin expressed.
In May, President Putin also reached out to Prime Minister Modi to "strongly condemn" the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, offering "full support" to India in its fight against terrorism.
A statement from the Kremlin highlighted that Putin expressed sincere condolences to PM Modi regarding the deaths of Indian citizens resulting from the terrorist attack on April 22 and stressed the necessity for an "unwavering fight" against terrorism in all forms.
"In their discussion, the strategic nature of Russian-Indian relations, characterized by a special privileged partnership, was emphasized. These relations remain free from external influence and continue to evolve dynamically across various sectors," the statement from the President's office read.
"The Indian leader reiterated his invitation to the Russian President to visit India for the annual bilateral summit. The invitation was graciously accepted," it added.
Though PM Modi was invited by Putin to participate in the Victory Day celebrations, he was unable to travel to Russia.
Furthermore, President Putin previously extended condolences to President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Modi regarding the grave consequences of the terrorist incident in Pahalgam.
