Vladimir Putin Set to Visit India in Early 2025 at the Invitation of PM Modi; Dates to Be Confirmed

Moscow, Dec 2 (NationPress) Russian President Vladimir Putin is likely to travel to India in early 2025, responding to an invitation from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as stated by Kremlin aide Yury Ushakov. This visit is part of the ongoing tradition of annual meetings between the two leaders.

Ushakov noted, "Our leaders have an agreement to meet once a year. This time, it is our turn," during a recent press briefing.

He mentioned that Russia has received the invitation from PM Modi and is expected to respond positively. "We will determine tentative dates early next year," he added.

This announcement highlights the strong relationship between New Delhi and Moscow, even as geopolitical tensions continue to influence global politics.

Putin's forthcoming visit will emphasize enhancing strategic collaboration in vital sectors such as Defence, energy, and trade.

The last time the Russian President visited India was on December 6, 2021, during the 21st India-Russia Annual Summit in New Delhi.

In contrast, PM Modi made two significant visits to Russia this year, attending the 22nd Russia-India Summit in July and later participating in the BRICS Summit held in Kazan in October.

During the BRICS meeting, PM Modi reiterated India's commitment to fostering peace amidst the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict. "We are in regular contact regarding the Russia-Ukraine conflict. As I have mentioned before, we believe that disputes should be resolved peacefully. India fully supports the earliest establishment of peace and stability," the Prime Minister stated during his meeting with Putin in Kazan.

Additionally, PM Modi expressed India's willingness to aid in resolving the conflict, highlighting a humanitarian perspective. "In all our efforts, humanity remains our priority, and we are prepared to provide assistance wherever possible," he remarked.

Putin's impending visit comes at a time when the global focus is on the Russia-Ukraine war and its broader effects on international diplomacy. This visit is anticipated to strengthen the connection between New Delhi and Moscow as both nations contend with pressures from Western countries.

Despite facing isolation from several nations due to the conflict, India has maintained a balanced stance, prioritizing dialogue and peace. India's non-alignment with the International Criminal Court (ICC) permits Putin to visit New Delhi without fears related to the ICC arrest warrant issued for alleged war crimes in Ukraine.

Putin has curtailed his international travels in recent years due to the ICC's warrant, which necessitates member states to detain individuals facing such charges. However, India's status as a non-signatory to the Rome Statute means it is not required to enforce the warrant, thus providing a secure environment for bilateral discussions between the two countries.

As Putin's visit approaches, discussions are expected to focus on strengthening partnerships in Defence, energy, and trade—the foundation of the India-Russia relationship. With an emphasis on countering global economic and political challenges, this visit is poised to reaffirm the enduring friendship between New Delhi and Moscow.
