New Delhi, Dec 2 (NationPress) The imminent visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to India is anticipated to yield sizable benefits across various domains, including strategic, defense, energy, and trade, as stated by Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov on Tuesday.

During an online media briefing held at the India Habitat Centre organized by Sputnik News, Peskov mentioned that this visit is poised to strengthen a relationship grounded in mutual understanding, partnership, and a shared vision for global matters informed by the rule of law.

Peskov highlighted the rich history of this partnership, asserting that Moscow has consistently supported India through key phases of its development.

He pointed out that while strategic and defense cooperation are delicate areas, Russia is eager to share its enhanced knowledge in various sectors, particularly emerging technologies.

Discussions on energy and nuclear collaboration are expected to be central to the dialogue between President Putin and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Peskov affirmed that Russia continues to supply energy to India at competitive prices, referring to it as a mutual benefit.

On the nuclear cooperation front, he confirmed ongoing collaborations and future initiatives, asserting that Russian assistance has led to the establishment of a distinct sectoral ecosystem within India’s nuclear sector.

Trade discussions are likely to take center stage during the visit, with Russia-India bilateral trade reaching $63 billion, aiming to surpass $100 billion by 2030.

However, Peskov acknowledged that some actors are attempting to hinder the trade relationship, indirectly referencing the United States.

To rectify the current trade imbalance, he mentioned Russia’s intention to boost imports from India.

A business congress involving enterprises from both nations is set to convene a day prior to President Putin’s arrival, aiming to identify avenues for enhancing Indian exports, Peskov indicated.

Regarding geopolitical matters, Peskov expressed appreciation for India’s balanced stance on the Ukraine conflict, recalling Prime Minister Modi’s remark that “this is not an era of war”.

He noted that Russia values India’s readiness to consider Moscow’s views, contrasting this with the absence of dialogue with Europe.

Peskov also confirmed ongoing discussions with U.S. representatives, adding that Moscow remains open to endeavors for peaceful resolutions.

Discussing Moscow’s growing relations with Beijing, Peskov stated that Russia aims to enhance cooperation in every arena as much as India permits, emphasizing that the partnerships with India and China, while both robust, are independent.

Defense matters, including the S-400 missile defense system and Sukhoi-57 fighter jets, are expected to be discussed during Putin’s trip.

Peskov noted that Russian-origin platforms constitute 36 percent of India’s defense imports.

On the topic of counter-terrorism, Peskov condemned the recent explosion in Delhi and reiterated Russia’s long-standing solidarity with India against terrorism, calling for enhanced international collaboration.

Discussions are also expected to include the Chennai–Vladivostok maritime corridor, Chabahar port cooperation, and trends towards de-dollarisation, highlighting the increasing global interest in national currencies amid the “unpredictability” of the global system.
