Sofia, April 20 (NationPress) The coalition known as Progressive Bulgaria, spearheaded by former President Rumen Radev, is poised for a significant win in the parliamentary elections, as indicated by the official partial results released on Monday.

With 91.68% of the votes accounted for, the Progressive Bulgaria coalition has garnered 44.691% of the votes, as per the data published on the website of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Bulgaria, according to reports from Xinhua.

The GERB-UDF coalition is in second place with 13.398%, closely followed by the We Continue the Change-Democratic Bulgaria (PP-DB) coalition at 13.210%. Other parties include the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) with 6.233%, and the Revival party with 4.354%.

Several other parties that participated in the elections have not crossed the 4% threshold required for representation in the 240-seat parliament.

Calculations from the anticipated parliamentary seat distribution, as reported by bTV and Dnevnik, suggest that the Progressive Bulgaria coalition could secure 131 seats. The GERB-UDF coalition is projected to receive 39 seats, followed by PP-DB with 39 seats, MRF with 18 seats, and the Revival party with 13 seats.

The CEC is expected to announce the official results, including the seat allocations, by Thursday.

According to the constitution, the president is responsible for assigning the largest parliamentary group the task of forming a government, which will be elected by a simple majority in parliament.

This election marks the eighth parliamentary poll in Bulgaria within a span of five years, following the resignation of Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov's government in December 2025 amidst widespread protests concerning its economic strategies, coupled with the parliament's inability to establish a new cabinet.

Zhelyakov’s government assumed office on January 16 last year after snap elections in October 2024.

President Iliana Lotova appointed Andrey Gurov as the caretaker prime minister in February of this year.
