New Delhi, May 20 (NationPress) The Rafale fighter jets provided by France have evolved beyond being mere advanced defense systems; they now embody a profound bond of friendship and strategic trust between India and France, as conveyed during a meeting with a visiting delegation from the French Senate.
During the session with the Parliamentary Standing Committee on External Affairs, led by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, the French delegation, headed by Senate Vice Chair Catherine Dumas, expressed unwavering support for India following the recent Pahalgam terror attack, reaffirming Paris’s commitment to assist India in its struggle against cross-border terrorism.
The delegation included Senators Marie-Arlette Carlotti, Hugues Saury, and Philippe Folliot, along with France’s Ambassador to India, Thierry Mathou. They reiterated France’s strong backing for India in light of the Pahalgam attack and its broader fight against terrorism.
Tharoor mentioned to the press that the French visit was planned well before the April 22 attack and Operation Sindoor; however, the delegation chose to continue with their visit to demonstrate solidarity in the battle against terrorism.
"The French visitors candidly expressed their support for India concerning the unfortunate events in Pahalgam and beyond. They used the French term 'soutien' - meaning support - which was profoundly appreciated," he stated.
In the meeting, India emphasized that the Rafale jets are not just a military purchase but symbolize a lasting friendship and strategic collaboration between the two countries. This sentiment was echoed by senior BJP leader and former Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad, who is set to lead a multi-party delegation to France and other Western European countries as part of Operation Sindoor Outreach, aimed at highlighting Pakistan’s state-backed terrorism on a global scale.
Tharoor introduced Prasad to the French delegation, noting his upcoming diplomatic endeavors. Prasad emphasized how Rafale represents a collaboration rooted in shared democratic principles and mutual strategic goals.
The meeting saw robust participation from members of the Standing Committee on External Affairs, including D.K. Aruna, Satnam Singh Sandhu, Arun Govil, Vijay Baghel, Brijender Singh Ola, Mithesh Patel, R.P.N. Singh, Praniti Shinde, and Kiran Chaudhary.
With global attention focused on Operation Sindoor, the visit by the French Senate delegation delivers a powerful and unified message: France stands resolutely with India in its fight against terrorism, both in principle and through partnership.
