A significant police presence, including an Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) and four Circle Officers (COs), was deployed to ensure order.
Uttar Pradesh Congress President Ajay Rai and Rajya Sabha member Pramod Tiwari were present outside the court when Rahul Gandhi was providing his statement. Party leaders characterized the appearance as a part of a standard judicial process and expressed their trust in the judiciary.
Earlier, Congress supporters gave Rahul Gandhi a grand reception at the Lucknow Airport, from where his convoy traveled to Sultanpur through Mohanlalganj and Raebareli under tight security.
The defamation complaint was lodged by Vijay Mishra, a BJP leader and former president of the District Cooperative Bank, regarding alleged derogatory comments made by Rahul Gandhi against Amit Shah during a public meeting in Karnataka back in 2018.
Gandhi had made a prior court appearance on July 26, 2024. Following his absence on subsequent dates, the court directed him to appear in person on February 20.
The case will now be revisited for further proceedings on March 9.
