New Delhi, Dec 10 (NationPress) - The Opposition Leader in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, is preparing for a trip to Germany later this month to engage with the Indian diaspora at a gathering in Berlin.

His itinerary, set for December 15 to 20, coincides with the Winter Session of Parliament, concluding on December 19.

As per the Indian Overseas Congress (IOC), Gandhi will speak at a significant diaspora event on December 17, organized by the IOC’s European branches.

“We are privileged to host Shri Rahul Gandhi ji, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha and Member of Parliament, who will connect with the Indian diaspora in Berlin on December 17, 2025,” stated Ausaf Khan, President of the Indian Overseas Congress, Austria, in a press release.

Khan mentioned that the gathering will unite IOC leaders from across Europe, serving as a platform to discuss enhancing the Congress organization internationally, addressing the crucial issues faced by non-resident Indians, and strategizing on expanding the IOC’s influence and promoting the party’s ideology abroad.

“We eagerly anticipate invaluable insights from our senior leadership, including Rahul Gandhi, Sam Pitroda, Dr. Arathi Krishna, and other respected leaders,” the statement further noted.

This news arrives amidst intensified criticisms from the BJP, which has accused Rahul Gandhi of prioritizing international travel over his parliamentary duties. BJP representatives have labeled him the “Leader of Paryatan.”

Union Minister Pralhad Joshi condemned Gandhi for planning a foreign trip during the ongoing parliamentary session.

“He chooses to be abroad while Parliament is in session and later claims he lacks the opportunity to speak. He is a part-time, unserious political leader,” Joshi asserted.

However, the Congress party has responded robustly. Senior Congress member Priyanka Gandhi Vadra defended her brother’s travel plans, characterizing the BJP’s criticisms as hypocritical.

“Modiji spends nearly half his work time outside the country. Why are they questioning the Leader of the Opposition’s travels?” she queried.

The upcoming trip to Germany is part of Rahul Gandhi’s broader strategy to expand his international outreach, having recently engaged with diaspora communities in the US, UK, and Southeast Asia.

Point of View

It is essential to present a balanced perspective on Rahul Gandhi's upcoming Germany visit. While the BJP's criticisms highlight concerns about parliamentary responsibilities, Gandhi's efforts to connect with the Indian diaspora demonstrate a commitment to engaging global Indian communities. This approach could reinforce his political relevance amidst ongoing debates about leadership and accountability.
