Hyderabad, June 30 (NationPress) In a significant setback for the BJP in Telangana, MLA T. Raja Singh announced his resignation from the party on Monday. This decision came after he was allegedly denied the opportunity to submit his nomination for the state unit chief election.
Singh, representing the Goshamahal constituency in Hyderabad, forwarded his resignation to the state BJP president, G. Kishan Reddy. He stepped down from the primary membership of the party, requesting Reddy to notify the Assembly Speaker of his departure from the BJP.
This resignation occurred just hours after the party's central leadership reportedly chose N. Ramchander Rao as the new state BJP chief.
Known for his controversial views aligned with hardline Hindutva, Raja Singh expressed his disappointment over the party's decision to not allow a vote among the members for the state leadership position.
He articulated that the news regarding Rao's impending appointment was both shocking and disheartening for him and countless party workers.
“As the BJP approaches the critical point of potentially forming its first government in Telangana, such a decision raises significant questions about our future direction,” he stated.
Despite his discontent, Raja Singh reaffirmed his dedication to the Hindutva ideology.
It is understood that the central leadership has finalized Rao for the chief position, with Rao being a High Court advocate and a former Member of Legislative Council (MLC).
In response to the reports of Rao's selection, Raja Singh emphasized that the party president should be elected by the grassroots members of the party.
He voiced that all active members, from the grassroots to senior positions, should have a say in electing the president, citing past issues arising from appointments made based on recommendations rather than votes.
Singh highlighted that the real strength of the party lies in its workers, whose efforts led to winning eight Lok Sabha seats last year.
On Sunday, the BJP issued a notification regarding the election of a new state unit chief.
Previously, Kishan Reddy took over the role of state BJP President just before the 2023 Assembly elections, succeeding Bandi Sanjay. He played a significant role in the party's performance in both the Assembly and the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
Although the BJP secured only eight seats in the 119-member Assembly, it managed to double its seat count in the Lok Sabha elections.
Following the BJP's retention of power at the national level, Kishan Reddy was re-inducted into the Cabinet.
A change in the state leadership has been anticipated for several months.
