Jaipur, June 16 (NationPress) The Rajasthan state BJP General Secretary and MP from Bhilwara, Damodar Agarwal, held a press conference on Monday to outline the Bharatiya Janata Party's extensive preparations for the upcoming International Yoga Day on June 21.
Agarwal revealed that the BJP will organize yoga activities on June 19 and June 20 across all 44 districts and 1,137 mandals in Rajasthan leading up to the main celebration.
According to him, more than 1,500 yoga events will take place at various levels—state, division, district, and mandal—with numerous programs scheduled in Nagar Palikas, Nagar Parishads, and Nagar Nigams.
Special yoga sessions dedicated to women will also be hosted in urban locations, featuring many events with creative formats. Moreover, yoga instructors will be recognized during the festivities.
Underlining the significance of yoga, MP Agarwal stated, “Yoga is one of India’s greatest contributions to the world. It transcends mere physical exercise, serving as a way of life that nurtures mental clarity, emotional stability, and spiritual tranquility.”
He highlighted yoga's holistic essence, asserting that it fosters unity within oneself and with the environment, families, society, and all living beings.
Reflecting on yoga's global acknowledgment, Agarwal credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for leading the initiative that resulted in the United Nations declaring June 21 as International Yoga Day.
The proposal, presented by India and backed by 177 UN member nations, was accepted in record time—within 90 days—on December 11, 2014. Since its launch in 2015, International Yoga Day has emerged as one of the largest health movements worldwide.
MP Agarwal noted that the 2024 edition saw participation from over 24.53 crore individuals, with extensive outreach facilitated through social organizations, schools, Anganwadi centers, and government departments. Social media initiatives reached more than 3.48 crore people, while Indian embassies and institutions engaged 5.45 lakh individuals globally.
He shared significant survey results indicating that 11.2 percent of people practice yoga regularly, 13.4 percent practice occasionally, and 41 percent have some connection to yoga. “These statistics reinforce yoga’s increasing role as a universal bridge for health, unity, and well-being,” Agarwal stated.
