Impending Thunderstorms and Hail Expected in Rajasthan Due to Western Disturbance
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Jaipur, March 18 (NationPress) A new wave of weather phenomena is poised to affect Rajasthan as a Western Disturbance becomes active in the area. The Meteorological Centre in Jaipur has issued a warning for thunderstorms, strong winds, rainfall, and localized hailstorms in the coming days.
On Wednesday, a cyclonic circulation emerged over the western regions of the state, heightening the chances of severe thunderstorms, rainfall with wind speeds reaching 40-50 km/h, and sporadic hailstorms across multiple districts, according to officials.
Light rain, coupled with thunderstorms and gusty winds, is anticipated in certain areas of the Jodhpur and Bikaner divisions, as well as the Shekhawati region. However, the majority of the state is expected to remain dry. This weather system is predicted to strengthen, with its most significant effects felt over the next two days.
On Thursday, thunderstorms accompanied by rain and strong winds (40-50 km/h) are forecasted for parts of Jodhpur, Bikaner, Ajmer, Jaipur, Bharatpur, Udaipur, and Kota divisions. Isolated hailstorms may also be observed. Similarly, on March 20, these conditions are expected to persist in Bikaner, Ajmer, Jaipur, Bharatpur, and Kota divisions, featuring thunderstorms, rain, strong winds, and potential hailstorms. By March 21, the weather is projected to become dry.
Nonetheless, light rainfall may return in isolated pockets of the Bikaner division on March 22. Authorities have urged farmers to exercise caution, particularly those with crops nearing harvest. Produce left in open fields or stored in agricultural mandis should be protected or moved to secure storage to avert damage caused by rain and hail. The weather department will provide further updates as the situation develops.
In the meantime, the highest temperature recorded in the state reached 38 degrees Celsius in Chittorgarh, while the lowest was 13.5 degrees Celsius in Sirohi.
Recent observations indicate that the average humidity levels across most regions of the state varied between 32 percent and 76 percent.
