The makers of Mahakavya Shri Ramayan Katha unveiled the film's official trailer on Thursday, 17 September 2026, offering audiences a first detailed look at the mythological epic starring Dev Sharma as Shri Ram, Anjali Arora as Mata Sita, and Rajniesh Duggall as Ravan. The film is slated for a simultaneous Hindi and Chhattisgarhi release across cinemas in India on 25 September 2026.

What the trailer reveals

The nearly three-minute trailer traces key episodes from the Ramayan — the bond between Shri Ram and Mata Sita, their exile during vanvas, the Sita Haran, Hanuman ji's unwavering devotion, and the climactic battle between dharm and adharm. The film's central message is crystallised in the line: 'Adharm Ke Saamne Dharm Ka Naam, Shri Ram.' The themes of dharma and maryada run throughout the narrative.

The director's vision

Director Abhishek Singh said the creative team kept returning to what he calls the 'Katha Bhav' — the emotional and devotional core of the story. 'Every filmmaker will have a different way of approaching the Ramayan. For us, the first question was what feeling we wanted the audience to carry with them... That bhav had to remain at the centre of our telling,' Singh explained. The film also features Sheel Verma as Lakshman and Nirbhay Wadhwa as Hanuman.

Lead cast on their characters

Dev Sharma, reflecting on his portrayal of Shri Ram, said: 'For me, Shri Ram's strength lies not only in what he can do, but in the restraint, compassion, duty and Maryada with which he makes every choice... There is a different responsibility when you portray someone who is not merely a character for people, but someone they revere.'

Anjali Arora spoke about what drew her to Mata Sita: 'What stayed closest to my heart about Mata Sita was her unwavering resolve. There is immense grace and gentleness within her, but behind that gentleness lies an extraordinary inner strength... the most important part of portraying her was to bring that inner strength and dignity into my performance with complete sensitivity.'

Rajniesh Duggall, on playing Ravan, offered a philosophical reading of the role: 'Ravan possessed immense knowledge, power and stature, but ultimately his aham became greater than his wisdom. Raavan had ten heads, but it was the one called 'I' that destroyed him. We all have a Ravan within us. We just need to make sure we don't feed him.'

Music and pre-release buzz

The film's soundtrack features a lineup of prominent voices, including Kailash Kher, Javed Ali, Farhad Bhiwandiwala, Anurag Sharma, and Sunil Soni, covering both Hindi and Chhattisgarhi compositions. Shaan is also set to feature in an upcoming track. Before the trailer launch, the makers had already released a teaser and three songs — 'Siya Ram', 'Ram Ji Ki Sena', and 'Hey Hanuman' — with more expected ahead of release.
