Anjali Arora on Sanatan Dharm trolls: 'Faith without humanity is empty'
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Actress Anjali Arora, who played Maa Sita in the recently released film Mahakavya Shri Ramayan Katha, has spoken out against Hindus who mock others for expressing pride in Sanatan Dharm, saying that true belief in God must also encompass belief in humanity. Her remarks, made in Mumbai on 2 October 2026, come in the wake of growing online discourse around religious identity in India.
The Core Message: Devotion Must Coexist With Humanity
Arora drew a sharp distinction between practising religion and living by its values. She argued that those who troll self-identified Sanatani Hindus often fail to demonstrate the very humanitarian principles that Hindu scripture teaches.
'They are those people who believe in religion but do not believe in humanity. A person who believes in God will like every religion. I am a Hindu here, even if there is a Muslim sitting in front of me, I will look at him as if he is God for me, even if he is a Muslim,' she said.
Muslim Crew Members Who Sang for Lord Ram
Arora recalled that the production of Mahakavya Shri Ramayan Katha was a study in exactly the kind of interfaith collaboration she advocates. Several members of the film's crew — including spot dadas, light dadas, and music directors — were Muslim, and yet they contributed wholeheartedly to the film's devotional soundtrack centred on Lord Ram.
'There were so many people on our set who were Muslims who were working. Our spot dada, light dada, music directors, they all are Muslims. So, they also sang the songs of Lord Ram. They also made music for Lord Ram's movie,' she said.
This comes amid broader national conversations about artistic collaboration across religious communities in the context of mythological cinema, a genre that has seen a sharp revival in 2025–2026.
About the Film and Its Cast
In Mahakavya Shri Ramayan Katha, Arora starred opposite Dev Sharma, who portrayed Lord Ram. The supporting cast included Sheel Verma as Lakshman, Nirbhay Wadhwa as Hanuman, and Rajniesh Duggal as Ravan. The film was directed by Abhishek Singh and produced by Prakash Mahobiya and Sanjay Bundela. It released in Hindi and Chhattisgarhi on 25 September 2026.
Discipline Over Identity
Arora stressed that religious affiliation is secondary to the internal discipline that all scriptures, across faiths, seek to instil. 'It does not matter whether you are a Hindu or a Muslim. You need to have that discipline inside you which our scriptures teach us,' she said. Her comments position the film not merely as a devotional project but as an argument for the universality of its subject matter.
With mythological films increasingly becoming flashpoints for identity politics, Arora's remarks signal that at least some artists within the genre are pushing back against the sectarian framing of devotional content.
