Marcus Rashford Makes Comeback to England Squad for World Cup Qualifiers
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
London, March 14 (NationPress) Marcus Rashford has been summoned back to the England squad as head coach Thomas Tuchel announced his inaugural selection as the Three Lions manager on Friday. England is set to compete in two matches during the FIFA World Cup European qualifiers at Wembley later this month, with Tuchel unveiling his first England lineup comprising 26 players preparing for the upcoming fixtures.
Rashford, who has not represented England for a year, was included in the squad after showcasing impressive performances since joining Aston Villa on loan from Manchester United in January. The 34-year-old Jordan Henderson, a midfielder from Ajax, who has been away from the England setup since November 2023, has also been called up for the matches against Albania and Latvia on March 21 and 24, according to reports from Xinhua.
Additionally, Dan Burn, a defender from Newcastle United, has received his first call-up to the England squad, while Myles Lewis-Skelly from Arsenal is making his debut in the senior team.
"I'm very excited now for training finally after so many months already in the job - it's time to be back on the pitch and hug the players and push the players and implement a certain style of play and establish some rules and principles," remarked Tuchel, who assumed the England manager role earlier this year.
"I can't wait for that. We are very excited to be in charge of a match at Wembley. It's beyond what I could imagine from my career," added the former coach of Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain, and Borussia Dortmund.
